On 4th October 2024, a delegation from Tsinghua University, led by Dr Xu Qinghong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee and Vice Chairperson of the University Council, visited Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). The delegation was warmly welcomed by Prof Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, along with Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), Prof Liu Jiming, Associate Vice-President (Research Development), Prof Daniel Lai, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and Ms Jenny Li, Director of the University Engagement Office.
During the bilateral meeting, both leaders—Prof Alex Wai and Dr Xu—delivered addresses and reviewed over 30 years of collaboration between the two universities. With the Wei Lun Academic Exchange Centre at its core, the two universities have provided a high-quality platform for academic cooperation and student exchanges, making a positive contribution to the long-term close cooperation between Beijing and Hong Kong. Additionally, both sides engaged in discussions regarding their respective experiences in development strategies, discipline construction, and talent cultivation, reaching new consensus on cooperation to promote transdisciplinary education that integrates arts performance, electronic computing, and other disciplines.
Tsinghua's visit will open a new chapter for in-depth collaboration between HKBU and Tsinghua. Both parties stated that they will align with national development plans, endeavouring to implement the outcomes of their discussions and jointly promote university cooperation and effective regional development.
