On 17 September 2026, a delegation from South China University of Technology (SCUT) visited Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) to deepen exchanges and cooperation between the two universities.
The delegation was led by Professor Yang Zhongmin, President of SCUT and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Other delegates included: Mr Xu Zhi, Director of the Development Strategy and Planning Office; Ms Yao Min, Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs; and Ms Jiang Lianxia, Director of the Domestic Cooperation Office (Alumni Work Office).
HKBU participants included: Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor Liu Jiming, Interim Provost; Professor Wang Jun, Chair Professor of the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science and Technology; and Ms Jenny, Director of the University Engagement Office.
The symposium was held in Room SWT 803, Shaw Tower, HKBU. In his welcome address, Professor Alexander Wai stated that HKBU has consistently upheld the Whole Person Education philosophy. This year marks HKBU's 70th anniversary, and the University has achieved remarkable results in science and technology, and transdisciplinary research. He expressed a strong intention to further deepen exchanges and cooperation with SCUT, jointly promoting initiatives such as student exchange programmes and academic collaboration. A video introducing HKBU was then screened.
Professor Yang Zhongmin, President of SCUT and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, expressed his sincere gratitude to HKBU for the warm reception. During the free exchange session, both sides engaged in an in-depth and fruitful discussion, actively exploring how to leverage their respective academic and research strengths to achieve synergy. Both parties reached a preliminary consensus on promoting student exchange programmes and establishing regular mechanisms for academic cooperation, providing a broader platform for engagement between students and faculty of both universities.
The visit ended in a friendly atmosphere, laying a solid foundation for future in-depth cooperation.
