On 10 September 2026, a delegation from Wuhan University visited Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) for in-depth exchanges on collaborative projects including joint student training, staff exchange, and joint research funding applications.

The delegation was led by Professor Zhou Fuling, Dean of the School of Nursing at Wuhan University. Other delegates included: Professor Deng Hongbing, Executive Dean of the School of Technology and Industry and Professor of the School of Resource and Environmental Sciences; Professor Lv Lai, Associate Dean of the School of Resource and Environmental Sciences; Professor Meng Xianmei, Associate Professor of the School of Nursing and Director of the Chronic Disease Rehabilitation Laboratory; Dr Fan Jingyi, Director of the International Medical Education and Exchange Cooperation Office and Chief Physician of Pediatrics/Neuropsychology at Wuhan University Zhongnan Hospital; Dr Liao Weijing, Chief Expert and Chief Physician of the Neurorehabilitation Department at Wuhan University Zhongnan Hospital; Dr Zhang Xin, Associate Chief Physician of the Neurorehabilitation Department at Zhongnan Hospital; Mr Peng Guohui, Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs; and Mr Yang Fan, Deputy Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs.

HKBU participants included: Professor Michael Ng, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology; Professor Zhang Ge, Associate Dean (Research) of Chinese Medicine, and Director of the Technology Development Division; Professor Zhang Hongjie, Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) of Chinese Medicine, and Cheung On Tak Endowed Professor in Chinese Medicine; Professor Li Jianming, Head of the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Science and Technology; Professor Ren Kangning, Head of the Department of Chemistry; Professor Tian Liang, Associate Professor and Associate Head of the Department of Physics; Professor Zhao Jun, Associate Professor of the Department of Biology; Professor Hu Di, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry; Dr Kubi Appiah, Lecturer in Nursing Education at the School of Continuing Education; and Ms Jenny Li, Director of the University Engagement Office.

The symposium was held at Room CVA1022, Lee Shau Kee Communication and Visual Arts Building, HKBU. In his welcome address, Professor Michael Ng stated that HKBU has consistently upheld the Whole Person Education philosophy. This year marks HKBU's 70th anniversary, and the University has achieved remarkable results in science, technology, and Chinese medicine. He also expressed the intention to deepen cooperation with Wuhan University in areas such as joint student training and research collaboration.

Professor Zhou Fuling expressed her sincere gratitude to HKBU for the warm reception, highlighting Wuhan University's strong commitment to fostering robust partnerships. During the free exchange session, both sides engaged in an in-depth and fruitful discussion, actively exploring how to leverage their respective academic strengths to achieve synergy. Both parties clarified their intention to promote the comprehensive joint training of students across bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. Notably, the two institutions reached a preliminary consensus on a joint plan for targeted enrolment and training in the Master of Rehabilitation Nursing programme. This strategic initiative will help cultivate talents with highly professional rehabilitation and nursing capabilities to meet growing healthcare demands.

Furthermore, the delegation and HKBU representatives discussed specific plans to facilitate staff exchanges. By promoting visiting professorships and regular academic interactions, both universities aim to further cultivate a vibrant and collaborative academic environment. Both parties expect to combine their complementary advantages in fields such as nursing, child psychological counselling, and resources and environment to jointly apply for research funding and drive impactful innovative research, making substantial contributions to the development of these key areas.

The visit ended in a friendly atmosphere, laying a solid foundation for future in-depth cooperation.
