Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications Delegation Visits Hong Kong Baptist University

On 16 April 2026, a delegation from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) visited Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) for in-depth exchanges on student exchange, joint training, and academic research, and signed cooperation agreements, marking a new milestone in the strategic partnership between the two institutions.

The delegation was led by Prof. Xu Kun, Chairman of the University Council and President of BUPT. HKBU participants included: Professor Alexander Ping-kong WAI, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor LIU Jiming, Associate Provost; and Professor LYU Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) cum Dean of Graduate School.

The symposium was held at SWT 702, Shaw Tower, HKBU, and was hosted by Ms. Jinqiu Li, Director of University Engagement Office. In his welcome address, Professor Alexander Ping-kong WAI stated that since its establishment in 1956, HKBU has consistently upheld the philosophy of Whole Person Education and actively advanced interdisciplinary education reform, committed to nurturing high-caliber talents with both global vision and innovative capabilities. This year marks HKBU‘s 70th anniversary, and the University has achieved groundbreaking progress in Chinese medicine, communication studies, creative arts, artificial intelligence, and other fields. Professor WAI noted that BUPT, as a leading institution in China’s information technology landscape, possesses profound strengths in communications engineering, artificial intelligence, and computer science, offering vast potential for collaboration. He expressed the hope that the two universities would leverage this signing as a starting point to jointly advance cutting-edge areas such as smart healthcare, digital creative media, and interdisciplinary talent development, contributing to the nation‘s innovation-driven development strategy. A video introducing HKBU was then screened.

Prof. Xu Kun thanked HKBU for its warm reception. He stated that BUPT, as the first university of posts and telecommunications in China, has always been characterized by its strengths in information technology, with integrated development across engineering, management, arts, and sciences, and holds outstanding advantages in the digital economy and next-generation information technologies. He hoped that the signing would serve as an opportunity to deepen comprehensive cooperation with HKBU in talent cultivation, scientific research, faculty and student exchanges, and platform co-development, jointly creating a model of Beijing-Hong Kong university collaboration. During the exchange session, both sides engaged in productive discussions on undergraduate exchange, joint graduate training, national-level research project applications, and laboratory co-development, reaching multiple important consensuses.

At the signing ceremony, Professor Alexander Ping-kong WAI and Prof. Xu Kun jointly signed the “Agreement on Academic Exchange and Cooperation” and the “Agreement on Full-time Undergraduate Student Exchange Program” between HKBU and BUPT. The signing of these two agreements establishes an institutionalized mechanism for cooperation in academic resource sharing, joint talent cultivation, and collaborative research, laying a solid foundation for future in-depth partnership.

The visit concluded in a warm and productive atmosphere. This engagement not only deepened mutual understanding and friendship between the two universities but also  paved the way for in-depth, extensive practical cooperation. It is expected to contribute to the development of national higher education and the drive for technological self-reliance and advancement.
