On 2 July 2026, a delegation from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) visited Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and was warmly received. The two institutions held an in-depth symposium focused on key areas of cooperation, including deepening academic synergy in Chinese medicine, facilitating the translation of scientific research outputs, and strengthening exchanges between youth exchanges between two regions.
The BUCM delegation was led by Professor Wang Yaoqi, Secretary of the Party Committee of BUCM. Members of the delegation included Mr. Fu Qian, Party Secretary of the School of Chinese Materia Medica; Professor Lin Yan, Dean of the School of Nursing; Mr. Zhou Chunyu, President of BUCM Shenzhen Hospital (Longgang); and Mr. Wei Peng, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office. HKBU representatives attending the meeting included Professor Huang Dingfa, Provost; Dr. Liu Jin, Associate Professor of the Teaching and Research Division, School of Chinese Medicine; Dr. Chen Jinhua, Assistant Professor of the Teaching and Research Division, School of Chinese Medicine; as well as Ms. Jenny Li, Director of the University Engagement Office, and Ms. Yin Yu, Senior Manager of the University Engagement Office.
The symposium was held in Room SWT 803, Shaw Tower. In his welcoming remarks, Professor Huang Dingfa stated that HKBU has long been committed to advancing the modernisation and internationalisation of Chinese medicine, with a solid foundation in academic research and clinical practices. Highlighting HKBU's recent proactive efforts in cross-disciplinary research, he expressed his hope to build upon the existing collaboration with BUCM. By leveraging the complementary academic resources and disciplinary strengths of both universities, he looks forward to deeper academic engagement that will inject new momentum into Chinese medicine innovation.
Professor Wang Yaoqi expressed her gratitude to HKBU for the hospitality and highly commended the University for its remarkable achievements in the modernisation of Chinese medicine. She noted that BUCM, with its profound heritage, shares a highly aligned vision with HKBU in the inheritance and innovation of Chinese medicine. During the meeting, both sides held in-depth discussions on establishing a long-term strategic partnership, with the aim of building a higher-level platform for industry-academia-research collaboration.
The two sides also made substantial progress in promoting young scholar exchanges. They held detailed discussions on short-term study tours and academic training programmes at HKBU for BUCM students. Both sides agreed that regular youth exchanges will not only broaden students' academic horizons but also further facilitate the integration and development of Chinese medicine talents across the two regions. The meeting concluded in a warm and constructive atmosphere, laying a solid and steadfast foundation for future substantive cooperation between the two universities.
