Research and Development
On 3rd December 2024, a delegation from Beijing Normal University (BNU), led by its President Prof Yu Jihong, visited Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). The delegation was warmly received by Prof Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, along with Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), Ms Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary, Prof Rick Wong, Senior Advisor to the President and Vice-Chancellor, and Ms Jenny Li, Director of the University Engagement Office.
BNU, a key university under the administration of the Ministry of Education, is renowned for its excellence in teacher education, education science, and foundational research in the arts and sciences. In 2005, HKBU and BNU jointly established Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC), the first cooperative higher education institution founded by universities from Hong Kong and the Mainland. This initiative pioneered a new model for collaboration in higher education across the two regions. During the visit, both parties reflected on their longstanding partnership and recognised the potential to further strengthen ties by integrating resources from HKBU, BNU, and UIC. They explored opportunities for deeper collaboration in areas such as student exchanges, academic partnerships, joint research project applications, and the development of shared research platforms.
HKBU and BNU expressed their commitment to leveraging this visit as a pivotal opportunity to expand their cooperation. Both institutions are eager to explore new models, disciplines, and opportunities for collaboration in higher education, contributing to the enduring partnership between Beijing and Hong Kong.
