2024 Beijing–Hong Kong Universities Alliance Council Annual Meeting Successfully Held

On December 10, the 2024 Beijing–Hong Kong Universities Alliance Council Annual Meeting and Themed Forum was held at Tsinghua University. This annual meeting was co-chaired by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and Tsinghua University (Tsinghua). Zhou Li, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges (Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs) of the Ministry of Education, Yang Jianglin, Associate Counsel of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Zhao Zhigang, representative of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and over 70 representatives from 22 universities in Beijing and Hong Kong attended the event.

Deputy Director Zhou Li delivered a speech recognizing the achievements of the alliance. She emphasized the importance of strengthening talent development, enhancing research collaboration, and deepening reforms to ensure the alliance’s continued success.

HKBU Provost Professor Martin DF WONG expressed his commitment to advancing the alliance’s goals. As co-chair universities of the alliance, HKBU and Tsinghua University will work together to promote collaborative initiatives, deepen exchange, and contribute to the development of higher education.

Themed “Opportunities, Challenges, and Win-Win: Collaboration and Exchange Between Beijing-Hong Kong Universities Alliance in a New Era,” the forum provided a platform for insightful discussions. Professor Martin DF WONG delivered a keynote speech titled “Empowering Education with Artificial Intelligence: Exploring New Models for Future Learning and Teaching,” highlighting HKBU’s latest achievements in AI-driven education. He encouraged universities to collaborate closely in fostering friendly relations and shared development among Beijing-Hong Kong universities.

In-depth Discussions Among Participants

The meeting also reviewed and approved the "Regulations on the Admission of New Members to the Beijing-Hong Kong Universities Alliance" (draft) and approved the application for membership of Beijing Jiaotong University. This annual meeting successfully established a platform for communication between higher education institutions in Beijing and Hong Kong, advancing educational collaboration and paving the way for new opportunities in academic cooperation.
