BU Stories
Located within the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre, CHRYSALIS - HKBU Art Tech Incubation Hub (CHRYSALIS) represents a significant initiative by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) in recent years, focusing on knowledge transfer and the practical application of research outcomes. This hub serves as a bridge between academic research and commercial applications, providing a transformation platform for innovators, artists, and startups.
"CHRYSALIS is a stage between caterpillar and butterfly. It means transformation. We choose this name because we like to have the transformation from research deliverables to a beautiful outcome," said Professor Terence Lau, Interim Chief Innovation Officer at HKBU, who was one of the leaders spearheaded the establishment of CHRYSALIS.
Currently, more than 7 startup companies have set up operations in CHRYSALIS, striving to transform research findings into commercial applications.
Looking ahead, Professor Terence Lau hoped that the research projects supported by CHRYSALIS would reach practical application stages and generate positive social impact. "CHRYSALIS is a new trial and it is like research, we always need new trials and new attempts, and we also need to venture something that we have not been experienced."
