Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) made a triumphant return to the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2026 with an 800-strong team joined by staff, students and alumni, the largest HKBU Marathon Team in history.

This record-breaking turnout highlighted the University’s unwavering commitment to sports development and holistic education as we celebrate HKBU’s 70th Anniversary in 2026. Our runners displayed perseverance, sportsmanship and unity in this exhilarating mega event.

President led a “cup-tivating” race

A major highlight of the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon was the inaugural University Challenge Cup, which made its debut this year.

HKBU’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alex Wai, exemplified leadership by completing the race with five staff and six student athletes. Together, they earned the 2nd runner-up position and displayed exceptional teamwork and resilience.

BUers from different faculties, schools and departments collectively gathered to cheer on the HKBU Marathon Team, spreading joy and enthusiasm throughout the marathon.

Cheering teams holding motivational signs and lightboxes stood on bridges and roadsides to uplift runners’ spirits, giving them a boost of much-needed serotonin during the exhausting marathon journey.

To ensure HKBU racers have a smooth and speedy recovery, staff and student helpers gave out refreshments at the booth in Victoria Park, Causeway Bay, while the professional team from the School of Chinese Medicine provided on-site health assessment and recovery advice.

The Hong Kong Baptist University Dance Association (BUDA) pumped up the racers with their energetic cheerleading and dance performance. It was so entertaining that the crowd responded with chants and claps.

HKBU’s University Engagement Office (UEO) launched a new live-streaming initiative, sharing delightful moments of the event with thousands of global viewers, demonstrating the unity and support of the HKBU community.

Sprint towards another milestone in 2027

During the 70th Anniversary celebrations, the HKBU Marathon Team and the HKBU community brought pride to the University with their unbeatable team spirits. We can’t wait to create more memorable moments with BUers. Let’s embrace new challenges and even greater achievements in 2027!
