On 1st November, representatives of the HKBU Council visited Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC). Led by Council Chairman Dr. Clement CJ Chen, the delegation also included Deputy Chairman Mr. Paul WY Poon, and Treasurer Ms Rosanna Choi Yi-tak. They were joined by senior officials of HKBU, including President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Alexander Ping-kong Wai, Provost Professor Martin DF Wong, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary Ms Christine OW Chow, and Interim Chief Innovation Officer Professor Terence LT Lau. The delegation took a tour of UIC’s campus, visiting the Learning Resource Centre, the Sport Complex, the Math Zone and dormitories. At Arts Hill, UIC’s Whole Person Education Experiential Learning Base, the delegates learnt more about Chinese archery and Guqin. They then met and exchanged with the students to gain a better understanding of their study and daily life. Meanwhile, the delegation also shared Hong Kong’s talent admission policy and the career prospects of different industries, and offered advice to the students on their study and career planning.
Professor Alexander Ping-kong Wai believed that the establishment of UIC marked a visionary strategy as it has become a springboard for HKBU to excel in education and research. He also emphasized the importance of the “One University, Two Campuses” initiative. “Starting from this semester, the Extended Study Programme will allow HKBU students to study in the UIC campus to gain practical experiences in the Greater Bay Area, and keep abreast of the latest developments of the area and the State. UIC students can also come to HKBU to discover a unique learning experience in Hong Kong. They will be able to broaden their horizons, enhance their competitiveness, and adapt to the local education system.”
Adhering to HKBU’s focus on liberal arts education, UIC adopts an innovative approach that incorporates whole person education, four-pillar education, and international education to nurture all-round talents with professional knowledge, a sense of national identity, and a global perspective. Moving forward, the two institutions will work in synergy to nurture more outstanding talents for the Greater Bay Area, China and even the world.
